Who is the course for?
To provide healthcare support workers and adult social care workers with an overview of the subject, enabling an understanding of challenging behaviours and its origin in order to develop ways to respond positively to the distress behaviour for the person with Dementia.

Level 2 award enables learners to achieve the standard required, knowledge and understanding of a subject relevant to their own work setting.

What does the course include?
The term "challenging behaviour" has been used to refer to the "difficult" or "problem" behaviours which may be shown by individuals. Such behaviours include aggression (e.g., hitting, kicking, biting), destruction (e.g., ripping clothes, breaking windows, throwing objects), self-injury (e.g., head banging, self-biting, skin picking), tantrums and many other challenging behaviours (e.g. running away, eating inedible objects, rocking or other stereotyped movements).
You can ask some key questions to ascertain the cause of the challenging behaviour.
Suggested questions you could ask as the detective are.
Is this a new behaviour?
Does the behaviour pose danger for the resident or others?
Whom is it really a problem for? (Resident? Staff? Family?)
Look at each behaviour as a separate challenge.
When did the behaviour start?
Is the behaviour an expression of other illness?
The Dementia and challenging behaviours training course is accredited level 2 with Advantage accreditation.
This training course is available as in-house training at a venue of your own choice throughout the UK.
Attendees minimum 6 to maximum 15
